Browser Requirements
This site uses quite a few elements that require a reasonably up-to-date browser, however where it does use them I
have tried to implement it in a W3C standards compliant browser-neutral way so that it works under Mozilla and
Internet Explorer which (in theory) should allow any other browser to access the site as they should be either W3C
standards compliant (Moz) or based around IE, and if they are neither then I probably don't want your traffic.
Realistically this site requires a version 6 or above browser, a decently sized monitor running a decent resolution,
and javascript enabled. I've also tried to keep the image bloat down to a minimum so it will load quickly over a 56k
modem.
(In case you are wondering I have a 19" Sony monitor currently running at 1024 x 768 and on the whole that's what I
design to as this system is over two years old so can be considered entry-to-mid level in terms of specification.)
Why version 6 and above?
Quite a few people hate coding for the lowest common denominator, me included. We have all these great accepted
standards which allow all these features, but we can't use them because a handful of people still have their version
4 browsers with all their quirks which mean features are either not supported, or even worse, supported in a
non-compliant way.
Internet Explorer
Now in version 6. Although IE5 did have some problems it generally coped with most things and didn't have a plethora
of bugs. The same can't be said for IE4 which had too many bugs, and doesn't really support a lot of the really fun
new W3C standards meaning that I would have had to code this site in a totally different manner, which would have
meant a less unique site.
Netscape
Now in version 7. Version 4 spanned so large a time period it's hard to get anything to work under all version
4 browsers and you have my pity if you want to make some browser-neutral markup or code! You'll be there forever
coding different versions.
The problem with earlier versions is that they weren't standards compliant, they had too many bugs and did things so
differently to IE that you had a total nightmare trying to make a complex client-side page that supported the two.
Newer Netscape versions are really just Mozilla with a quick polish and too much bloat, and so on the whole they are
good thing™.
